Huang Duoduo and Wang Yibo spark heated discussion
Huang DuoDuo will star in director Cheng Er's new movie “Mermaid”, paired with Wang Yibo, which has attracted widespread attention. The news quickly hit the hot searches, with more than 1 billion readers. Some people are worried that the “second generation star” is relying on resources, while some supporters believe that she has made her debut on the basis of her strength.
Huang DuoDuo became popular in the variety show “Where's Dad” and was highly praised for her good behavior and fluent English. After the program, she kept a low profile and pursued her studies, but her occasional appearances have been questioned for her “bad girl” style. Recently, her activities have been increasing frequently, firstly, her schooling scenes in Hong Kong have been exposed, and she has become a topic of discussion because of her role in “The Mermaid”.
Director Cheng Er specializes in literary films, before the “Romantic History” has a good reputation. This time, “Mermaid” has a luxurious lineup, with Wang Yibo, Tang Wei, and Wang Chuanjun joining the cast, and Huang DuoDuo playing the role of “Lan”, a mermaid who is “half-human, half-demon” who carries the curse of the community, which makes her role quite complicated. The director believes that her “storytelling face” fits the character.
To prepare for the movie, Huang DuoDuo trained three months in advance to free-dive and stayed underwater for 3 minutes and 17 seconds; she practiced her core for four hours a day and closed her mouth for three months; she wore 20 pounds of silicone fish tails ashore for 12 hours, which led to swelling of her legs; she received intensive training for three months, and received guidance from Jin Jing, a dialect instructor, and her ankles were even strangled by barbed steel wires. Wang Yibo appreciated her dedication.
Outsiders raised questions about whether her efforts were genuine. Huang DuoDuo, who has limited experience since childhood, has been exposed many times as “working hard”, and some people suspect that she is trying to build a persona for her debut. Others believe that she is a “resource person” who got the role by virtue of her father Huang Lei's close relationship with director Cheng Er and senior executives at Bona Film.
But there are also supporters who believe that she does have the chops: translating English novels at the age of 7, winning a piano award at 13, and excelling in the stage production of The Book in the Water. Director Cheng Er's casting criteria are strict, and the fact that he chose her means she has what it takes. Huang DuoDuo's success is not only due to her parents' fame, but also to her own efforts and the director's recognition.
